LANCONs are our new events with more of the original LAN PC gaming you remember mixed in with modern classics, and The Big LAN is thrilled to be working with the team at Syndal Baptist Church and their fantastic venue. Join the fun, meet fellow gamers, hang out, and play some classics with us at LANCON!

18+ only. This is a drug and alcohol free event. In the main LAN area only power and network access is provided, please bring your full PC (including monitor), console (including monitor), or laptop.

Bring Your Own PC Ticket

A Bring Your Own PC (BYO PC) ticket lets you access everything The Big LAN has to offer. Your ticket includes a seat at one of our rows of tables, an ethernet (network) cable that is already linked into our network (Wi-Fi is also available), two power points (one for your PC and one for your monitor), and a 3'x3' space to set up all your equipment in. You can connect any device you'd like including a laptop, desktop, Xbox, PlayStation, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, or Nintendo Switch, however a Windows based PC is recommended to get the most out of the day.

BYO PCs

A BYO PC 5+ group ticket is also available and is exactly the same as a BYO PC ticket but with a discount for bringing so many friends! Please note that this ticket type is not able to be combined with any spectator tickets or Rental PCs, but if you contact us via Messenger or Discord we can help customise you the best deal for your needs.

Spectator Ticket

A spectator ticket lets you access the event and includes lunch and dinner with us. You won't get a space for a PC/console nor access to the network or any tournaments. A spectator ticket is best for people who want to watch the games, hangout with their friends, and play a boardgame or two.

Schedule Filter

Select the buttons to filter the schedule. "Free" & "Paid" cycles between games you can get for free and games you'll need to pay for (e.g. purchase through Steam). Press "Any" to reset the filters.

"Xbox" & "PC & "Switch" & "PS" shows which games can be played on a PC or that console (e.g. Rocket League can be played on all four options, Age of Empires 2 will only appear when you have PC or Xbox selected). Press "Any" to reset the filters.

Tips & Help

If you're at the event you can download a complete, ready to run copy of Quake 3 Arena from our file server.

If you're using the steam version of Quake 3 Arena you'll need to install the v1.32e patch to join our server. You can download it from moddb here or ask the tech team to help you on the day. If you already have 1.32e installed you're good to go! Just boot the game, press the ~ key, and check your version in the bottom right of the resulting window.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2

Straight from the 90s, 4 years before SOLDAT, it's the 2D chaos of Jazz Jackrabbit 2! Grab a copy from Good Old Games (GOG) and join the chaos!

Soldat is an exciting unique side-view multiplayer action game. Little ragdoll soldiers fight against each other on 2D battle arenas using a deadly military arsenal. This is what multiplayer was invented for.

Tips & Help

Please note Unreal Tournament 99 (also known as GOTY Edition) is no longer available for purchase through online services including Epic, Steam, and GOG. You can download a copy of the game including driver fixes for modern devices here (only available on our local file server at the event) or use a fully updated version you previously purchased on Epic, Steam, or GOG.

Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy

Jump back into this early 2000s classic for a free for all battle! Jedi Master level force powers and all weapons on, of course.

Tips & Help

Please note we will be running an unmodified local server and hence you'll need either an original retail, Steam, or GOG copy of the game. Nintendo Switch or PlayStation ports will not be compatible.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo 2: Anniversary FFA Slayer! We'll host the games on the LAN ready to go, and you can vote on the maps you'd like to play. We'll break the field down into 6-8 player servers (depending on total attendance) and take the top players from each into the finals.

Please note Halo 2: Anniversary does not automatically install as part of The Master Chief Collection on Steam. You need to either select it as DLC through Steam or install the add-on from within the game's menu. The Xbox Gamepass version installs Halo 2 Anniversary automatically.

Tips & Help

Switching to LAN
1. Select "Options and Career" in the bottom left corner
2. Select "Settings" at the bottom of the menu
3. Select " Network" on the top row of menu options
4. Press the arrow next to "Xbox Live" to change it to "LAN"
5. Press back at the bottom left of the screen
6. When prompted press "Save Settings"
7. On the main menu press the button at the top right of the screen next to your name and rank
8. From the menu that appears on the right of the screen select the player you need to join and pick "join".

Checking Installs

1. Select "Options and Career" in the bottom left corner
2. Select "Settings" at the bottom of the menu
3. Select "Gameplay" on the top row of menu options
4. Select the options below each game for the components you need
5. Press accept in the bottom left of the screen
6. The download will start and appear at the top of the main menu. If the download is running slowly ask The Big LAN team for help.
Please note only Halo Reach multiplayer is installed by default.

Pausing

A game can be paused by any player in the following circumstances:

1. Server instability that cause clients to disconnect from the game.
2. A player's client crashes or fails to load at the start of the game.
3. If a single player is having client issues. A player may use a different computer if they continue to have client issues.

Players should not abuse the pausing feature. A match should not be paused for more than 5 minutes.
A game can not be paused more than 3 times in total. In rare circumstances a game remake may be considered.

NOTE: The player that paused the game must give notice before resuming the game.

Game Remake

Players can opt to remake a game during the first 10 minutes of the match with approval of the tournament admin.

Tips & Help

Joining a LAN game

1. Select "Multiplayer" on the main menu
2. Select "Join Custom Game" at the top right of the menu
3. Select the "Server" drop down on the top right and select the bottom option, "LAN"
4. Select the game from the list and then click "Join Lobby"


No games in the LAN lobby
1. Make sure the game is allowed through your firewall
2. Try switching TheBigLAN network to "Private" rather than "Public" by selecting "Network & Internet Settings" under the network option from the task bar, selecting TheBigLAN, and choosing "Private".
3. Try connecting directly to the server via a Steam invite from another player. The tech desk will be able to help you do this.

Golf with your Friends

Collisions on, jumps enabled, top players in each game progress to a final round to battle it out. It's Golf with your Friends at its most chaotic.

Blood on the Clocktower

During a hellish thunderstorm, a scream echoes through the sleepy town of Ravenswood Bluff. The townsfolk rush to investigate and find the beloved local storyteller has been murdered, their body hanging limp from the clocktower. As blood drips onto the cobblestones below, a realisation slowly dawns… a demon has been unleashed, killing by night and taking on human form by day.
Can good find the demon in time? Or will evil overrun this once peaceful town?

Blood on the Clocktower is a game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for five-to-twenty courageous players and one devious storyteller. A social game played in person, seated in a circle, each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.

Join us for games of Blood on the Clocktower with our expert storytellers. Games will start from approximately midday and run for 1-2 hours each, must end by 7PM, entry with any ticket

The Famous Dice Game

A battle royale with dice!

Line up and roll the dice, can you roll high enough to make it to the next round? Make it through a full set of D&D dice in a game of pure chance skill!

Warcraft 3

The biggest RTS of its time exactly as you remember it. We'll be playing FFA matches with 4-6 players in a single elimination bracket. Top players from each game will progress to the final.

We'll be using the original Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, not Reforged. You'll therefore need to acquire an original copy of the game which can nolonger be purchased or downloaded through battlenet. If you're unable to install a copy we will be able to assist you on the day.
